Who Knew?

I knew it would be an interruption in our routine but I did not believe it would be so difficult to be isolated from my family. And it has only been a day! The house is peaceful for now. Jared is at work and Chao lei and June are at school. But last night was horrible.

First, I thought my husband a capable man and he is. Most of the time. I was met with questions of where this thing was or how does this other thing work. Do we have any peas? If he paid me a dollar for each thing he could not find until I told him exactly where it was I could buy a new car. It is a small bit of exaggeration but it certainly does not feel like it.

Chao lei has been the easiest. "Mom? You OK?" Yes, dear. "OK. Cool."

June almost broke my heart. It was as I thought it would be at first; banging on the door and yelling "Let me in!" To distract her, Jared played a DVD. Which one? Frozen. Thank you dear. Soon, June was at my door singing, "Do you wanna build a snowman?" Then I could see her fingers under the door and she was asking if I loved her still and if I did I should let her in. Laying at my door, with her fingers under the door is where her father found her asleep. I have informed Jared "Frozen" is banned until my isolation is complete.

Do you know the difficulty of not answering the door when the bell rings and you are home but are not allowed out of your isolation room? We do not live on base. Someone knocking on our door is usually not someone just stopping by. In Japan, even a bill collector makes an appointment.. It is becoming more common for door-to-door sales people (usually female) to knock on doors but theirs are generally light taps. Today's knock was sharp and loud. Everything in me screamed for me to answer the door. I did not but I wanted so desperately to. I do not know who it was.

Three more days. I can do it.
