Today started with the dreaded, "Mommy, I do not feel well." A few sniffs and coughs later Chao lei was destined to remain home today so a quick call to Mayumi to arrange care for him to the protest of "I am old enough! I do not need a babysitter!" I will admit he is very responsible... for a ten year old boy. June is feeling her normal self; much energy and nothing to do with it.
No fever is present so covid or flu is eliminated but just in case we did a rapid test which was negative. I do not wish to experience the isolation that would result with a positive. The Navy tends to do everything large. Me going to work would be impossible. Even Jared would be encouraged to reside aboard ship since a sick captain cannot be.
Speaking of isolation, did I tell you that the hospital did not give me the iodine treatment yet? Well, they are doing it now and I have discovered it is more than just a pill. On Monday I get a shot, on Tuesday I get a shot, and on Wednesday I get a radioactive I-131 iodine pill. Beginning Wednesday, I must also Isolate. Fortunately, Jared is home for the near future. He informed Command of the situation and they informed him it should be fine. Barring any unexpected events, he should be home.
Week after next I get to experience a full body scan. Hopefully, I am not required to do anything but lay on the table. Each time they have done this, I have nearly fallen asleep or actually fell asleep in the machine. For some reason this elicits giggles from the staff. It seems I am not the adorable little sleeper when flat on my back. I have been told I snore. Since Jared does not complain of me snoring, I will assume this can be attributed to being flat on my back in a machine. After all, a girl wants her husband to look at her adoringly as she sleeps not wondering where the chainsaw is running.
Students begin to trickle back to school after a day or two. I hear the odd sniffle here and there but they do seem to be recovering nicely. Their quick recovery is good for them and me. For then because they do not fall far behind in their studies. For me because I do not have to adapt lesson plans to accommodate long illnesses. As is usual with military prevention measures, a negative covid test is required before returning, even for those that were sick only a day or two.
It seems our hike this weekend will be rescheduled. Even if it is a one day bug, we will remain home to give him maximum time to recuperate. Besides, rain is forecasted for the weekend. It will be nice and sunny on Monday. Go figure.
