It seems I have a daredevil on my hands. June has learned to roll over to her back. That is normal, I know. It is the energy with which she does it. No sooner than I place her on her back she rolls again. Ok. so she can roll. I need only place her head to my right so that if I place her there, she will roll to the back of the divan. Safe thinking, correct? No, incorrect. June has taken advantage of her sometimes half roll to the back to teach herself to roll the other direction.

Now there is no elevated surface that is safe to put her on without constant supervision. The daredevil is seen when she intentionally rolls off wherever she is laying as if she is challenging me to catch her. When I am successful, she giggles. when I am not, and this has always been when she is on her tatami, she giggles. Chao lei is no help when he giggles beside her and encourages her to roll. I pray this is as daring as she gets.

Chao lei is a devoted brother. I am so proud of him. He spends much of his time staying near her and playing with her and I am amazed at how much time he sacrifices to make her smile. I am not allowed to forget June in any way since he is always ready to remind me.

I hope if we have a third, this continues. I know that my childhood was a good one but it was tempered with Chinese influence. My brother learned not only from my parents but from the culture at large. It is difficult to be too close when one is taught the other is less.

  1. June definitely sounds like a daredevil! I think that spirit is the best - it gives them an edge in life!
