I have assumed a new project to occupy some of my time. Also, someone discovered my past work here in Japan and requested I do more.
It seems the Ombudsman's directories are outdated and "tired looking." The request is to update the web version and the paper version. It is to be simple to use meaning no menus to navigate to another menu (which the Navy seems fond of but is not user-friendly). If I build the way I was requested, our directory will be unique among the other units in that once you are on the directory page there will be little to frustrate you.
The Paper version is simple. Assemble the data and print it in an attractive, easy to read manner. I believe this paper version is for those few who reluctantly refuse to cease having something they can hold in their hands. I must admit, I do tend to pick up the closest paper reference before navigating around the web for my information.
I am not a luddite but I do tend to have books and notepads on hand. There is so much done on a computer by necessity that to hold a book or hand-write a note seems almost a guilty pleasure. I am often teased because I have several of them on my desk with even more in the drawers. I am always prowling for them. Even those responsible to pack my household goods made comments on the number of notepads in my desk drawers.
I await news from the university of a position there. If I am accepted to faculty there is a good chance I may occupy my old office. I am told it is unoccupied and remains in the color scheme I chose. I still possess the desk and furniture. We will see.
I'm not a luddite either, but I definitely enjoy writing my lists manually versus in my phone, etc. There's no shame in having notepads (nor can there be too many!)
ReplyDeleteI'll cross my fingers for you in regards to the university faculty position, and I wish you all the luck in the world with your project!
A piece of note paper does not turn off after a minute as a phone screen does. lol It is good it is not only my fingers that are crossed. Thank you!
