I have heard news and have seen pictures of the fires at home. Mother and father Bing have lost their cabin near Gates. It is fortunate for them their home is intact. Heather's home is intact as is mine. The concerns for us is the health of the horses. The air has been consistently rated as "Hazardous." Occasionally, they improve to "Very Unhealthy."

Peevey, my horse, has begun wheezing which is not a good thing considering his age. He is receiving medications but if the smoke does not clear soon, his condition will worsen to permanency. If that occurs, his life will be one of always being unable to breath properly and that would slowly kill him. There would be no choice but to put him down. We will see.

I am recovering nicely and have taken to walks around the base, even my favorite walk by the docks. I must reacquire my stamina. The last weeks of bedrest have taken their toll. I will not mention the baby fat I must now contend with. I hope to do at least two hikes before the end of Autumn. Early Autumn weather is warm and mostly dry but after half way it is rainy and cold. Hiking with June will not be practical.

Of course, hikes depend on Jared's presence. He arrived shortly after June was born but a week later was gone again. How long this time? Who knows. I do know I am tempted to open the paint cans and begin decorating June's room since it may be some time before her father is home long enough to do it. I Have messaged him of it because it needs to be done soon if it is to be done at all.

I t seems June will have a devoted brother. I am happy to say he is usually ahead of me when June makes any sound and is concerned of her wellbeing; even to the point of disrespect of me. I am careful to reassure Chao lei that his concerns for her are good but I also remind him disrespect is not acceptable. He is not the parent but we are a team. I believe he is finding his place in the life of his sister.

Remote teaching for the university is beginning well so far. I have a very flexible schedule for it. There are times I am required to be online though. It is usually for lectures and such. Most lecture I can prerecord but some require more interaction. Next week I will actually visit my office on campus. Hopefully, housekeeping has kept the dust at bay.

We will adjust to a new routine that includes three (four when Jared is home). We will continue being a Navy family.

  1. I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of the cabin and of your horse's health :( Our air has considerably cleared, and I certainly hope that it has done so, as well, in the Oregon area. Praying that Jared will be able to come home soon, and I hope that you continue to heal and fall into your new routine as a family!
