...Interesting times

The last days have been... interesting.

Jiao has eagerly absorbed all I have been able to show her. Since my time is limited from working, she has taken to being with the nieces often. I see her when she decides to ride and then only long enough for her to saddle Peevy and ride away with the other girls.

Ah, but I have my time of seeing her! I have informed her if she would ride, she will clean. This part she does not enjoy. She complains of the smell and mess. Perhaps I have been among it for too long as I do not smell anything out of the ordinary. It is the time she cleans I discover her activities while she is away.

Jiao has taken to being the "American teenager" quite well. Perhaps too well. I worry for her to become accustomed to her current behavior then to return home and fail to quickly return to what is reality at home. I encourage her to remember the difference.

July 30th we will leave for our first horse show for the year. It is my second entry to this show. Last year Peevy was entered by Cherry. This year it will be my efforts that are judged. I am eager to see what progress I have made.

Some difficulties have arisen. My shoulder has pain to the elbow and with long use my fingers are numb. The doctor says she believes it is a nerve being inflamed but has ordered x-rays to be sure there is no bone damage causing the discomfort. I have been given medicine but do not take all of it as told. I can not function with the pain medicine and muscle relaxer. Working while asleep is very difficult. I do take the anti-inflammatory medicine as she instructed. It seems to make it better. I take the others at night.

I have some pictures and will post them but tonight I have taken the other medicines. I will sleep soon.

  2. It's wonderful that your sister is enjoying her stay so well :) She will probably chafe at the restrictions of home once she's back, but that time will come soon enough. I rememeber so well my first experience away from home and the absolute freedom and huge world it exposed me to. They are my best memories.
Sorry to hear about your arm! Try not to aggrivate it too much and take the meds the tell you to. *shakes a Mom finger at you* :)

  4. May I ask what may seem to be a strange question? My husband is from Fuzhou China, and he and all those from Fuzhou believe in sending their babies to China when hey reach 2 months and bring them back when they are 5 or 6 and into the school system without any English. The kids tend to have a hard time, and take it out on their parents, may I ask if this is just something those from Fuzhou do or is it common for everyone coming from China? I was lucky though, my husband let me keep our daughter here. I'm just really curious at some of the things and haven't anyone to ask.

  5. This is not a common practice. It is not unheard of in Xi'an where I am from but it is an uncommon thing.

It is said a child is who he will be at the time he attains 6 years. For this reason some return their children to China so they may be fully Chinese. It is feared a child will be less Chinese if they are kept away and this will dishonor the ancestors.

  6. Thank you! That's what I think Chen has been trying to express to me. (we sometimes have a language barrier) I'm trying to find ways so that our daughter gets he best of both worlds.
I haven't seen many successful sending and bringing back, many of the kids who come back seem very rebellious. Yet, the one I've seen aside from my daughter has decided she wants nothing to do with the Chinese culture or language. It's quite a problem, I think. I'm glad that so far, my daughter is liking he language as she learns, and hopefully can learn more about the culture. I just need to learn more of it too!
    Thank you again!
